What is Clearing?

Clearing is your opportunity to bring your future into focus and secure a place at university.

If you are applying late, changed your mind about what or where you'd like to study, or missed out on the requirements of a conditional offer, Clearing is another way to focus on your university journey and secure a place.

You can find your place at university through Clearing from July until October, although some courses may close sooner where full. You will only be able to apply for a course once you have received your exam results. For most students this will be BTEC and A Levels results days, which are both in August, but if you're studying other qualifications, such as Access, it may be sooner.

There are many reasons why you might find yourself eligible to use Clearing:

  • You've changed your mind on what or where you would like to study, and have used Self Release
  • You applied after 6pm on 30 June
  • You didn't receive any offers
  • You received offers that you decided not to accept
  • Your exam results weren't as expected and you didn't meet the conditions of your offers.

With more than 70,000 students accepted through Clearing in the UK last year, Clearing really is just a great way to get into university. Whatever your situation, Clearing is an opportunity for you to find the right course and the right university for you.

When does Clearing take place?

Clearing at Kingston University runs from July – September and it is your final opportunity to apply to university for September 2023 entry.

You can apply for a course as soon as you receive your exam results. Our Clearing hotline is now open and we are happy to talk to you about your options. Whilst you can apply through Clearing on UCAS from Wednesday 5 July, in the meantime, you can speak to our friendly team about your options now as we are continuing to accept applications through the main cycle.

You can use our course search button to identify courses that may suit you and then contact us directly to find out if you meet the entry requirements for the course. If so, we can offer you a place. Remember, we also offer many of our courses with a foundation year that has lower entry requirements and some courses may be removed from Clearing if they fill up.
