Become an Alumni Champion

Volunteering at Kingston helps our students and our volunteers. Just as our students gain increased employability, knowledge and insight, our alumni volunteers gain a wealth of advantages.

Our Alumni Champions support Kingston in a number of ways, from hosting guest lectures or class reunions, to offering work experience to students or sharing their career profile online.

Why volunteer?

As one of our Alumni Champions, you'll have a transformative impact on students who are just about to start their careers. What would you have done differently and what hard-earned advice would you pass on? You'll also have the opportunity to network and promote your company or area of business, and develop your skills in areas such as coaching and public speaking. You can also add the title 'Alumni Champion' to your CV and LinkedIn profile.

Not least, volunteering is fun! Many of our alumni volunteer year after year, sharing the knowledge and insight they've gained since their own graduation.

There are many more ways to get involved

The experience and expertise you have is invaluable to our students. Here are some of the many ways to volunteer.

  • Mentor a student: Share your knowledge and experience and encourage a young person to achieve their potential while broadening your own skills and judgement.
"I learn so much from every new mentee and it keeps me in the loop on subjects I might otherwise ignore." Francesca Jordan, professional, alumnus and volunteer mentor
  • Share your career insights: Think of all you'd like to have known before you started your career. How might you have benefited from experienced advice in your area of interest? Now's your chance to help those following in your footsteps.
"I was able to provide a window for the future to a current student through my own experiences and career." Benjamin Blanco, Sponsorship Director, Samsung
  • Offer work experience: We'd love to know if your company can offer placements to Kingston undergraduate students. Placements are truly beneficial to both students and employers.
"If I'm looking for interns/placements for various companies... I can tap into the talent at Kingston University." Grania Sweeting, HR professional, alumnus and volunteer
  • Talk to prospective students: Use your experience to tell future students what it's like to study and live at Kingston.
  • Organise graduate events: If you have a talent for organising, why not host an alumni event in your city. These can be professional, social, serious or fun.
  • Be a Bright Ideas Judge: If you are passionate about new ideas, become a Bright Ideas online judge. Bright ideas is our annual student competition designed to give our students from any faculty at any level, the opportunity to develop a business idea, have it evaluated and win a prize up to £1,000.
  • Online judging: In this exciting role, you will be judging the online application submitted by our students entering the Bright Ideas competition.
"Reviewing the entries was interesting and fun, some of the ideas are brilliant! Besides it's a remote task, all you need is a laptop and WiFi connection." Viviana Viale, Senior Publisher Development Manager, Acceleration Partners
  • Be a final judge: The final is the last stage of the Bright Ideas competition, where the students will pitch their ideas to panels of judges. In this role you will be part of one of the panels, judging and scoring the ideas.
