Dr Eman Dahmash

About

I am a passionate and experienced researcher, a student-centred academic, clear communicator with more than 25 years of experience as a qualified pharmacist in various capacities. I developed a novel technology during my PhD at Aston University with two patents, more than 40 peer-reviewed publications, and a book chapter.

I completed my MSc and PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences and Drug Delivery after many years of experience, which shaped my perspective on the value of patient-centred care and personalized medicine in its broad aspects. During my PhD, I developed and optimized a new technology for particle engineering. A one-step particle engineering technology that processes drugs without the use of solvents and heat. Its USP lies in delivering enhanced particle properties for challenging actives (high dose, moisture sensitive or heat sensitive) at low cost.

The technology was protected by patent application (GB 1419308.0 on 20/10/2014) and the project was awarded a total of £500 K from Innovate UK and Aston University £60K. The grant was used to develop a spin-out company (Aston Particle Technology, Ltd.), where I am a co-founder and worked as a chief scientific officer.

I started working on scalability and development of the Pilot Scale device in collaboration with GB-Innomech (Cambridge-based manufacturers). During my work at APT, I also investigated the use of the technology in Pulmonary Drug Delivery which was brought as a priority for the pharmaceutical industry based on my market research activities that entailed discussions with more than 100 large and small pharmaceutical manufacturers across the globe. The pulmonary drug delivery technology was also protected by a patent application.
