About

My experience in FE/HE spans over 20+ years with a spectrum of roles, responsibilities and achievements. I worked as a research assistant, lecturer, senior lecturer and associate professor in 4 different universities. I managed academic courses, HE projects and educational missions. I have worked as a member of technical office to a HE minister and initiated national projects and international cooperation activities. I also worked in the diplomatic core for 6 years in the Egyptian cultural and educational bureau in London (cultural attaché & cultural and educational counsellor).

I am currently the Course Leader of Civil & Infrastructure Engineering BEng(Hons) and the Course Leader for 3 Degree Apprenticeship Programs in Construction.

As an academic, I lectured on many modules for UG & PG levels, supervised BSc-BEng/MSc research projects, supervised completed MRes and PhD thesis.

Teaching and learning

As an academic, I lecture on many modules for UG & PG levels, supervise BSc-BEng/MSc research projects, supervised completed MRes and PhD thesis. Having experience in directing undergraduate courses raising & sustaining the NSS overall student satisfaction at 95% for successive academic years, I also achieved the highest university score, for administration & management of a course for 2 successive years (2015-2017). I am a senior fellow of the HEA (2015) and have been involved in school-wide preparation for TEF.

Academic leadership, Quality assurance and student experience had been the centre of many of my recent roles. I co-lead teams for the internal validation and the external accreditation of civil engineering courses at LSBU and all construction disciplines at Kingston University. I lead teams through the successful validation of BSc, BEng and MEng courses and participated at validation panels at university level. I served as a vice-chair of a School Academic Standards Committee and sat/chaired on university's appeal panels. I acted as the academic lead, for the school of built environment, in the liaison with Industry in the setup of provision for the new Apprenticeships scheme (2015)

At Kingston University, I participated in the successful accreditation of the Civil & Infrastructure BEng leading the accreditation its Degree Apprenticeship provision as well as co-leading the accreditation of the Surveying courses and their Degree Apprenticeship provision.

Business, knowledge transfer and international

As link tutor for 3 courses in a partner institution in Egypt, I coordinated external and internal examiners activities and performed QAE auditing visits once per semester (LSBU, 2015-2017)

I acted as the academic lead, for the school of built environment, in the liaison with Industry in the setup of provision for the new Apprenticeships scheme (LSBU, 2015). 

Since 2017, I contributed to the development and implementation of Degree Apprenticeship programmes in the fields of Civil Engineering, Construction and Surveying, with responsibility for providing quality experience to apprentices through the provision of leadership and appropriate co-ordination with all key stakeholders.

Leadership and management

As a senior manager, I have 10+ years of experience in managing two major FE/HE national projects, a university unit and an educational and a cultural mission. I have managed teams of professionals, academics, administration and support staff across various disciplines. Planning, monitoring, controlling budgets, executing, stakeholder management, quality control and mobilising/liaising with industry key employers to support government lead initiatives & establish PPPs
