Miss Ifrah Mussa

About

I am a Lecturer in Aerodynamics in the Department of Aerospace and Aircraft Engineering. I joined Kingston University as an undergraduate student in 2013 to study Masters in Aerospace Engineering (MEng). Throughout my degree, I was involved in a range of research projects including: Development of an aircraft fuel burn model for London Luton Airport; Delaying boundary layer transition using forward facing step; and Grid generation and aerodynamic analysis of 2D wind turbine blade. Upon finishing my degree I was offered a fully funded PhD opportunity at Kingston University where my research focuses on predicting ice formation process on wind turbine blade and analysing iced blade performance.

Since joining Kingston University, I have worked as a SEC Summer Research Intern and did summer internships at Civil Aviation Authority as a Navigation Approvals Officer for two years. I also did on campus work such as Student Support Worker, Event's Assistant and Student Ambassador. The Student Ambassador role includes STEM Outreach work which I particularly enjoy and continued during my PhD.

Alongside my PhD, I was working as a Graduate Teaching Assistant to support aerodynamics, propulsion and engineering design tutorials and lab sessions. I also mentored a few BSc/BEng and MEng individual and group design projects. During second year of my PhD, I completed a six months PhD placement in China at Northwestern Polytechnical University in Xi'an for experimental and numerical icing research.

I am an associate member of Energy Institute (EI) and Institute of Mechanical Engineering (IMechE). I am also a member of Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS) and a Fellow of Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
